I recently read Growth Marketing Strategy by Rose Jia, and here are a few key insights I found particularly compelling right from the start.
"My job was to think and influence"
— Rose Jia
In the ever-evolving landscape of business, the connection between innovation, sales, and marketing forms the true cornerstone of success.
These three elements craft the essential roadmap for business growth, with marketing standing as the vital bridge between innovation and sales.
In business, growth isn’t just a goal: it’s survival. Companies that fail to grow or sustain themselves will wither, much like any living thing in the natural world.
Yet, marketing remains criminally underrated. As marketers, we haven't always done a great job of articulating our true worth.
The reality is that our value is existentially linked to the business itself: we drive growth, invest in the future, amplify the voice of the customer, and act as the bridge between where a company has been and where it is going.
Marketing carries countless definitions depending on who you ask.
However, Rose posits that "marketing should be defined simply as the act of influencing someone (whether a customer or stakeholder) to make a decision."
That decision could be virtually anything under the sun related to the business and the brand, from tapping a link, making a purchase, or sharing a post, to telling your neighbors or investing in the company's vision.
At its core, marketing is about driving action forward, and action is what ultimately unlocks growth.
